new derby.

It all started about 3 weeks ago. Word got out workers were already over at Derby and shit was going down. Then the illusion from Malibu posted this video, Thrasher picked up on it and all hell broke loose.

4 inches of resurfacing were added, huge concerns were raised by the skaters (as they should be) and the results were nothing short of miraculous. Skaters considerations were taken, adjustments were made, concrete was poured, pocket rockets were formed, heck, they employed skateboarders in the full on construction. In short, the skateboarders won. The park is better than ever (and faster). Thank you, City of Santa Cruz. You are a lot cooler than most. New Derby is here and she is wonderful. She will buck and deconstruct you. Hang on for the ride and be ready to pay in blood.

Before.

After.Yesterday. Alex Foy. California’s oldest skatepark just got a nice upgrade.

the wizard: interviewed.

Meeting Chris Carnel at 16 introduced me into a world of snow filled landscapes, professional snowboarding, desert lunar landings, skateparks, coffee shops, insane photography, reno and obscure punk and metal bands. Thanks, Chris. Your influence has been immense. Click here for an awesome read with Chris.

cruising for a bruising.

Santa Cruz Skateboards has been making “cruisers” long before “longboarding” was synonmous with that one brand from Southern California. These “cruzers” are the real deal. Santa Cruz just released a gang load of new one’s, here are wreckreation’s favorites:

Pharaoh. 8.3 x 32.5

Art by the master, Jim Phillips. Two graphic choices. Straight outta Egypt. Comes available as deck only, wall hanger, or as the catacomb complete. Either way, it’s a win win.

Jammer Big Strip. 8.9 x 35

This is like the board being skated in the first photo above (regular jammer strip), but this cruzer re-tooled a wee bit bigger. Comes with Bullet 140s and Road Rider 65mm wheels (78a’s). Good setup, bro.

Goddess. 9.3 x 36

The graphic says it all. The goddess will make you happy.

These cruzers are available now worldwide.

Get out and skate, friends.
